Sophie on walkabout.

  Last post I talked about Schatov and Sophie. You recall that I could not understand why Sophie wanted to wander. Well tonight she is on walkabout again. She is not interested in the banana bribe, because there are just too many big juicy mangoes on the ground. She does not even have to pick them. Photographs of mangoes maybe tomorrow. But she is surprising me tonight. She has been sitting just near me. She has no fear that I will capture her and return her to her enclosure. She knows from past experience that  I won't do that. When she is ready to return, she will ask me. The surprise is what she is eating. First an experiment with a junk piece of plastic tub and soon realising that it was not edible. Then leaves and for postre grass. Lots of grass. I have never seen howlers eat grass before. They may well do but I have never seen it. All this action took place on the ground. Well everyone knows that howlers live in the high canopy and eat fruit, leaves and flowers. Someone better tell Sophie. All our enclosures except hers contain at least one mango tree. The mangoes drop down freely and the monkeys help themselves. Because of the absence of mango above their enclosure, we manually supply the fruit every day. Clearly Sophie wants to get the large Hayden mangoes which fall just outside her garden. I imagine she will want to get back to Schatov for breakfast.

En el último mensaje hablé de Schatov y Sophie. Ustedes recordarán que yo no podía entender por qué Sophie quería pasear. Bueno, esta noche es el paseo nuevo. Ella no está interesada en el soborno bananero, porque hay demasiados y grandes jugosos mangos en el suelo. Ella no tiene ni siquiera montarse en un árbol para recogerlos. Las fotografías de los mangos tal vez la coloque  mañana. Pero ella me está sorprendiendo esta noche. Ella se ha sentado justo a mi lado. Ella no tiene miedo de que yo la capture y la devuelva a su recinto. Ella sabe por experiencia que no voy a hacer eso. Cuando está lista para volver, ella me avisa. La sorpresa es lo que está comiendo. En primer lugar un experimento con un trozo de chatarra del recipiente de plástico y luego darse cuenta de que no era comestible. Luego las hojas y la hierba para el postre. Un montón de hierba. Nunca he visto a los aulladores comer hierba antes. Es muy posible que ellos lo hayan hecho, pero nunca lo he visto. Toda esta acción se llevó a cabo sobre el terreno. Bueno todo el mundo sabe que los aulladores viven en el dosel alto y comen frutas, hojas y flores. Alguien más dice Sophie. Todos nuestros recintos, excepto la suya contienen al menos un árbol de mango. Los mangos caen libremente y los monos se los comen. Debido a la ausencia de mango por encima de su recinto, nosotros le suministramos la fruta todos los días. Es evidente que Sophie quiere obtener los mangos Hayden grandes que caen a las afueras de su jardín. Me imagino que querrá volver con Schatov para el desayuno.
