That's a báquiro not a monkey.

Here in Venezuela, báquiro is the local word for a peccary. Our picture shows a little girl. I am guessing she is about 5 weeks old. Her teeth have not yet fully developed and she is on soft food.  She can do serious damage to banana squashed up with milk and she likes a bowl of water. She is very friendly and wants company. We have not yet found a house for her but we are working on it. How did she get here? One of our friends drove away in his car two nights ago and much to our surprise came straight back. In his hand was this little girl. He found her in the road. He looked around for the mother but without success. This is a remote location which borders on fairly deep forest and hillside fields. An ideal location for families of  baquiro. Over the years we have seen them often. Unfortunately they are a popular meal with local farmers. We theorised that the mother and family were hunted and the little girl got left behind. We have fostered baquiros before. Given a chance they become very domesticated. In fact, if they are allowed they will run with the dogs. We look forward to living with her. Name? We have not yet decided.
Many people think that the baquiro is a member of the pig family. Maybe because of the flat nose. But this is not the case. Here is it's proper classification.

United : Animal
Filo :  Chordata
Class : Mammalia
Order : Artiodactyla
Family : Tayassuidae
Gender : Pecari

Nombre? Todavía no hemos decidido.

Reino: Animal
Filo:   Chordata
Clase: Mamifero
Orden: Artiodactyla
Familia: tayasuidos
Género: Pecari
Especie: P. tajacu
