Black Sapote time.

Our picture shows poor Daniel fighting off a crowd of monkeys wanting their share. Even the wild girl Silvia has joined the attack. In the bowl there is a large helping of Black Sapote just collected from our arboretum. From time to time I have shown you various fruits that we have available. This is the second time we have had a large crop of Black Sapote. It seems that each time the harvest is bigger. The monkeys love them. One of the benefits we derive from our botanic garden, is the large number of tropical fruit we have available to augment the children's meals. We are able to make our own significant contribution to the feeding of our children from the garden.

But what does the meat of the fruit look like close up?  Our picture below. Its very dark brown/purple. Sticky with a consistency of shoe polish. A taste out of this world.

 Diospyros digyna, the Black Sapote, is a species of persimmon that is native to eastern Mexico and Central America south to Colombia. Other names include Chocolate Pudding Fruit, Chocolate Persimmon and (in Spanish) Zapote

Zapote negro.


Nuestra foto muestra al pobre Daniel luchando contra una multitud de monos que quieren su parte. Incluso la chica salvaje Silvia se ha unido al ataque. En el cuenco hay una gran porción de Zapote Negro sólo se obtiene de nuestros árboles. De vez en cuando he mostrado varias frutas que tenemos disponibles. Esta es la segunda vez que hemos tenido una gran cosecha de Zapote Negro. Parece que cada vez la cosecha es más grande. A los monos les encanta. Uno de los beneficios que se derivan de nuestro jardín botánico, es la gran cantidad de frutas tropicales que tenemos disponibles para aumentar las comidas de los niños. Somos capaces de hacer nuestra propia contribución significativa a la alimentación de nuestros niños desde el jardín.

 Diospyros digyna, el Sapote Negro, es una especie de caqui que es nativa del este de México y Centroamérica hacia el sur hasta Colombia. Otros nombres incluyen frutas Pudding de chocolate, chocolate y caqui Zapote (en español)
