Sofia has a shampoo.

Little Sofia the baby capuchin, has been in the wars. Sofia shares the enclosure with Toula and Toula is a much larger monkey. What we didn’t realise was that Toula was taking nearly all the food and that Sofia was going without a full diet. We noticed that Sofia had lost some hair along her flanks. Clearly we had to find a way of getting a full diet for Sofia as well as treating the hair loss. A celotape sample revealed an infection of tiny spiders under the microscope. A couple of shampoos (see picture) was sufficient to remove both the insects and their eggs rapidly. The fur is growing back strongly. Sofia has been moved to a temporary home inside my house, where I can personally supervise her daily meals and already she is looking fatter. That of course leaves the question of her future home. Our plan is to test whether Jean and Jane will accept her. This would be the best solution. Then maybe Oliver will think again about teaming up with Toula. They lived together without conflict before but when Sofia came along we felt that this was a better partnership. Maybe now, with a little patience, Oliver may accept Toula. Boy and girl is always the best option where possible. Monkeys are like people, they like one person but not another. The trick is to test the relationship carefully before committing to a permanent partnership.
