An unusual Monday

Usually visitors come at the weekend but we had a visit from the family and friends of Chilin last Monday. The group was led by Valentina, the mother of Chilin. She was accompanied by Holger a professional photographer. She intends to start a website encouraging a proper attitude towards primates. Holger took many photographs of our monkeys. I was able to admire his professional technique. His pictures are outstanding in their composition. I learnt a lot from him. Diana and her sister Andreina were also in the group. Diana wrote to us last week about a baby female howler that she had rescued. We are trying to organise a home for the little girl. We were surprised when Diana arrived with Valentina because we were unaware that they were acquainted. Diane is a post graduate student. She is a biologist and she is studying Primates.

The party spent the morning in the enclosures getting to know the children. Of course Maniña was on good form, he loves the ladies. Barnaby was as cheeky and naughty as usual. I was invited to have lunch with our visitors. Valentina brought an excellent cold lunch complete with cutlery.

After lunch the group continued meeting the children and yet more photographs.

The visit had an unusual turn when late in the day it began to rain heavily. Road conditions deteriorate rapidly in heavy rain here, it also became very dark. It was decided to stay at Canaote overnight. This gave us the opportunity to get know each other as well as to continue our discussions about monkeys. David prepared a handsome dinner for us. We decided to retire early as we had all had a long and interesting day and the party wanted an early start in the morning.

Before breakfast, there was time for another round of visits to the children as well as a trip around our botanic garden, led by David. David also gave the party a description of his work with adeniums. Finally early morning, the party set off on their journey back to Caracas. We enjoyed this visit and hope they will all keep in contact with us.

Un lunes inusual.


Por lo general los visitantes vienen los fines de semana, pero tuvimos la visita de la familia y los amigos de Chilin el lunes pasado. El grupo fue dirigido por Valentina, la madre de Chilin. Ella estuvo acompañada por Holger un fotógrafo profesional. Ella tiene la intención de iniciar un sitio web para fomentar una actitud adecuada hacia los primates. Holger tomó muchas fotografías de nuestros monos. Tuve la oportunidad de admirar su técnica profesional. Sus cuadros se destacan en su composición. Aprendí mucho de él. Diana y su hermana Andreina también estaban en el grupo. Diana nos escribió la semana pasada acerca de un bebé aullador hembra que había rescatado. Estamos tratando de organizar un hogar para la niña. Nos sorprendió cuando Diana llegó con Valentina, porque estábamos conscientes de que ellas se conocen. Diane es una estudiante de postgrado. Ella es bióloga y está estudiando los primates.

El grupo pasó la mañana en los recintos para conocer a los niños. Por supuesto Maniña esta en buena forma, y le encanta a las señoras. Barnaby fue tan descarado y travieso como de costumbre. Fui invitado a almorzar con nuestros visitantes. Valentina trajo un excelente almuerzo frío completo con cubiertos.

Después del almuerzo, el grupo continuó la reunión con los niños y más fotografías.

La visita tuvo un giro inusual, cuando al final del día comenzó a llover fuertemente. Las carreteras se deterioran rápidamente con la lluvia aquí, también se puso muy oscuro. Ellos decidieron permanecer en Cañaote esa noche.

Esto nos dio la oportunidad de conocernos mutuamente, así como para continuar con nuestras discusiones acerca de los monos. David preparó una cena elegante para nosotros. Hemos decidido adelantar su jubilación, como todos habíamos tenido un día largo e interesante y el grupo quería un comienzo temprano, nos fuimos a descansar.

Antes del desayuno, hubo tiempo para otra ronda de visitas a los niños, así como un viaje alrededor de nuestro jardín botánico, dirigido por David. David también le dio al grupo una descripción de su trabajo con las plantas adeniums. Por último al mediodía, el grupo partió en su viaje de regreso a Caracas. Hemos disfrutado de esta visita y esperamos que todo se mantenga en contacto con nosotros.
