At Canaote we have a two monkeys from Puerto La Cruz. They are a pair, boy and girl Alouatta seniculus. Lorenzo and Nineta.They are very much loved by their human family. Until recent times they were free in the trees at their home. The farm was at a fairy remote site. Neighbors moved into the area with their unpleasant children. The boy of the new family attacked the male monkey first with a stone, which blinded him in the right eye, then on another occasion attacked him with a machete. This resulted in the lost of the use of his hand. The monkey's family were terrified that next time the boy would kill the monkey. They called me and I accepted the two monkeys here at Canaote. The girl has been no problem she has settled down well. She is sweet and friendly. The boy Lorenzo, not so. Sulking and silent . Whist all the other monkeys in our facility roar at least twice a day, he remained quiet. I looked for an answer and strangely I found it in music. The human family had a habit of playing certain music to the pair of monkeys and they did this fairly often.
I did an experiment. I played a lot of music to them, music similar but not the same as they were used to. I got no reaction. I played songs that they had been exposed to and Lorenzo now regularly joins in the chorus.

Lorenzo se une al coro con su nueva familia
En Cañaote tenemos dos monos de Puerto La Cruz. Ellos son una pareja, Hembra y macho araguatos o aulladores ( Alouatta seniculus). Lorenzo y Nineta. Ellos son muy amados por su familia humana. Hasta hace poco tiempo estaban libres en los árboles en su casa. La finca estaba en un sitio remoto de hadas. Llegaron nuevos vecinos a la zona con sus hijos desagradables. El chico de la nueva familia atacó al mono macho en primer lugar con una piedra, que le cegó el ojo derecho, y luego en otra ocasión lo atacó con un machete. Esto dio lugar a la pérdida del uso de la mano. La familia de los monos estaba aterrorizada de que la próxima vez el chico acabara con el mono. Ellos me llamaron y acepté los dos monos aquí en Cañaote. La niña ha sido un problema para acostumbrarse acá. Ella es dulce y amable. El niño Lorenzo, no es así. Es mal humorado y callado. Todos los otros monos rugen o aúllan, por lo menos dos veces al día, él permanecía en silencio. Busqué una respuesta y, extrañamente, la encontré en la música. La familia humana tenía la costumbre de escuchar cierta música con los monos, y lo hacían con bastante frecuencia.
Hice un experimento. He colocado un montón de música para ellos, música similar, pero no la misma que ellos estaban acostumbrados. No tenía reacción. Coloque canciones que habían sido oídas por Lorenzo, y ahora con regularidad se une al coro.
