Trapped in Paradise.

During the last week there has been a steadily deteriorating situation concerning access to Canaote. The bridge on the El Pau road has collapsed. Local opinion is that its back was broken by the passage of very heavy military transport, tank carriers etc.
Up to yesterday it has been possible to ford the river at Topo although the passage of heavy commercial vehicles brought this route to a standstill. Until, that is, some control was established. Younger members of the riverside communities have been supplementing their incomes by guiding vehicles across, indicating the shallow paths through the river. Fortunately, until now the heavy rains, expected, have held off. Strangely, there has been no sign of the traffic police or the police or the GN assisting  in this work. Events took a different turn today. The communities alongside the river and villages through which all this new traffic has been passing have cried 'enough!' They have been disturbed by the dust and noise caused through out the day by the unending stream of heavy commercial vehicles passing their homes. But even more they are upset by the lack of official action to repair the bridge or provide an alternative. I myself saw a small village bridge broken by this heavy traffic.
Today there are reports of vehicles being stopped and cash demanded in order to proceed. There is talk of closing these routes altogether with burning tires and vigilantes.
There are several possible routes:
Over the mountain, narrow dusty road from Aguadita. (This would also pass through the villages.)
The ford at Topo. (passes through the villages)
The ford near the Slaughter house.
There is also some talk about repairing the old Tinaco bridge that was replaced when the existing one came into use many years ago. This is at the moment in poor and unsafe condition.
At this moment we have no information on the state of the Tinaco bridge or when we can expect it to be back in use.


Our own access has been limited to taking the car as far as the Slaughter house, parking and proceeding on foot into the town. This way we have been able to buy food for the monkeys and limited supplies for the household.


We did receive brave visitors yesterday, who were guided in across a ford by one of our friends on a motorbike.


My own suggestion is that a set of military pontoon bridges be placed in the river near the Slaughter house. This would get traffic moving again and would inconvenience no one.

Atrapados en el paraíso.


Durante la última semana se ha producido un progresivo deterioro de la situación para el acceso a Cañaote. El puente de la carretera que va a  El Pao se ha derrumbado. La población local se queja porque esto ha pasado por el paso de transporte militar muy pesado, como los tanques, los camiones de convoy militar, etc
Hasta ayer, había sido posible pasar por el río del Topo, pero el paso de los vehículos comerciales pesados ​​daño esta ruta a un punto que es imposible pasar. Los miembros más jóvenes de las comunidades aledañas han mejorados sus ingresos mediante la guía a los vehículos, indicando los caminos de poca profundidad a través del río. Afortunadamente, hasta ahora las intensas lluvias, no han llegado. Extrañamente, no ha habido ninguna intervención de tránsito, policía o la Guardia Nacional,  para vigilar que no pasen vehículos pesados. Pero aún más están molestos por la falta de acción oficial para reparar el puente o una alternativa. Yo mismo vi un puente pequeño en el  pueblo roto por el tráfico pesado.
Hoy en día hay noticias de que detuvieron y exigieron dinero en efectivo a los vehículos a fin de proceder. Se habla de cierre de estas rutas en conjunto con la quema de neumáticos.
Hay varias rutas posibles:
Sobre la montaña, carretera estrecha con polvo que sale a la población de la Aguadita. (Por aquí también pasan por los caseríos.)
La carretera del Topo. (Pasa a través de los caseríos)
La vía cerca de la casa.
También algunos hablan de reparar el viejo puente de Tinaco, que fue reemplazado cuando el existente se empezó a usar hace muchos años. Este por los momentos está en mal estado y es inseguro.
En este momento no tenemos ninguna información sobre el estado del puente de Tinaco, o cuando podemos esperar que este de nuevo en uso.
La única manera que tenemos para pasar hacia Tinaco, es estacionar nuestro vehículo cerca del puente caído, pasar en una moto y hacer nuestras diligencia, etc., hemos podido comprar de forma limitada la comida para los monos y las compras para el hogar.


Hemos recibido a unos visitantes valientes  ayer, que fueron llevados por uno de nuestros amigos en una moto.
Mi sugerencia personal es colocar por los momentos puentes militares al lado del que están reparando y que las autoridades controlen el trafico, hasta que este reparado el puente principal.
