A small handful of money

Monito this morning in full voice.

This morning I looked down at the small handful of money that I must use to get through the rest of the month. Inflation seems to climb ever upward and the weekly budget for the monkey's food now exceeds two and a half mil per week. Now, sadly is a very difficult  time for us at Cañaote.  But our responsibility to care for our monkeys does not stop. The children still need three good meals a day. They need their plates washing after meals and the enclosures have to be cleaned and disinfected every day. Monkeys are messy eaters.


It goes without saying that, staff have to be paid and the government have just now announced an increase in the workers pay.
 My slim pension from the British Government has not increase by one bolivar in the seventeen years that I have been here. This pension pays all the bills, there is no other income.


I seem to be spending more and more of my time, writing to people, asking for donations or contributions to help with this work. Sometimes I feel that many of my monkeys have been abandoned here. I suppose it is all part of the task or mission that has been set for me but I would rather spend my time caring for the monkeys rather than writing letters like this one.

If none of the above but would like to do something really positive to help the monkeys that have been torn from the forest, whose mothers have been murdered, monkeys that in many cases have been abused, maltreated and malnourished. Un pequeño puñado de dinero


Monito esta mañana aullando.




Esta mañana  miró el pequeño puñado de dinero que debo utilizar para pasar el resto del mes. La inflación siempre va hacia arriba y el presupuesto semanal para la alimentación de los monos ahora supera los dos millones y medio por semana. Ahora, por desgracia es un momento muy difícil para nosotros en Cañaote. Sin embargo, nuestra responsabilidad de cuidar de nuestros monos no se detiene. Los niños todavía necesitan tres buenas comidas al día. Ellos necesitan que sus platos sean lavados después de las comidas y los recintos tienen que ser limpiados y desinfectados todos los días. Los monos cuando comen ensucian mucho.


No hace falta decir que, el personal tiene que ser pagado y el gobierno acaba de anunciar un aumento en el sueldo de los trabajadores.
 Mi pequeña pensión del Gobierno británico no ha aumentado en un bolívar en los diecisiete años que he estado aquí. Esta pensión tiene que pagar todas las facturas, no hay otros ingresos.


Parece que estoy gastando más y más de mi tiempo, escribiendo a la gente, pidiendo donaciones o contribuciones para ayudar con este trabajo. A veces siento que muchos de mis monos han sido abandonados. Supongo que todo es parte de la tarea o misión que se ha creado para mí, pero yo prefiero gastar mí tiempo cuidando a los monos en vez de escribir cartas como ésta.

Si usted prometió ayudar y luego se olvido, recuerde y considere la carga que llevo por usted.


Si ninguno de los anteriores es su caso, pero le gustaría hacer algo realmente positivo para ayudar a los monos que han sido arrancados de la selva, cuyas madres han sido asesinadas, los monos que en muchos casos han sido abusados, maltratados y desnutridos.
