We are building at Canaote. The pictures below are not of a complete work but rather a work in progress. Over the years we have learned a lot about how to house monkeys. Both from the point of view of the monkey and the carer. For the monkey it must be a safe place where she/he can live for a perhaps a long period in comfort. Comfort means clean, protected from the elements of sun and rain, given a large space where they can exercise, play, eat and sleep and above all keep boredom at bay. For the carer, we have to acknowledge that monkeys can be aggressive particularly if the monkey detects nervousness on the part of the carer. Although aggression can have many causes. You will see from the design that we have taken the safety of the carer into account.

A través de los años hemos aprendido mucho acerca de cómo alojar monos

Estamos construyendo en Cañaote un nuevo recinto.

Las siguientes imágenes no son de una obra completa, sino más bien de un trabajo en progreso. A través de los años hemos aprendido mucho acerca de cómo alojar a los monos domésticos. Tanto desde el punto de vista de que el mono y el cuidador estén seguros. Para el mono tiene que ser un lugar seguro donde él / ella puede vivir por un largo periodo  con comodidad. Confort significa limpio, protegido de los elementos sol y  lluvia, dando un gran espacio donde se puede hacer ejercicio, jugar, comer y dormir  y  sobre todo, mantener a raya el aburrimiento. Para el cuidador, tenemos que reconocer que los monos pueden ser agresivos sobre todo si el mono detecta nerviosismo por parte del cuidador. A pesar de que la agresión puede tener muchas causas. Como verán en el diseño hemos tomado en cuenta la seguridad del cuidador.

View one shows a side view where you can see two entrances. The nearest is a double door. The carer can enter, then close the outer door behind him. He/she can then open the second door without danger of the agile monkey slipping away behind him. There is a second entrance beyond the first. This is an enclosed eating place, 'Restaurant de Monos'. You will see in a later picture that the monkey can enter easily through a doorway, the door can be closed to either exclude the monkey or to let him in. The monkey can also be kept in this area by closing the door.

Esta es una muestra de una vista lateral donde se pueden ver dos entradas. La más cercana es una puerta doble. El cuidador puede entrar, cerrar la puerta exterior detrás de él  y abrir la segunda puerta sin peligro de que el mono ágil pueda escabullirse detrás de él. Hay una segunda entrada más allá de la primera. Este es un lugar para comer cerrado, “Restaurant de Monos “. In picture two, on the immediate left you can see the door to the restaurant. This can be opened or secured by a wire from outside. We regard this as a very important feature. In the event that the monkey/monkeys are aggressive, (they often attack in pairs), they can be lured into this area and then the door can be closed, leaving the main area safely free of monkeys. This is an important feature because it allows the carer to clean and maintain the main area without fear of attack or interference.

En la foto dos, inmediatamente a la izquierda se puede ver la puerta del restaurante. Esta puede ser abierta o asegurada por un cable desde el exterior. Consideramos que esto es una característica muy importante. En caso de que el mono / los monos sean agresivos, (a menudo atacan en parejas) , pueden ser atraídos a esta área y luego la puerta se puede cerrar , dejando a la principal zona de seguridad libre de los monos . Esta es una característica importante porque permite que el cuidador pueda limpiar y mantener la zona de trabajo, sin temor a ser atacados o inducciones.

Picture three shows a front view of the 'restaurant' the two blocks will support a ceramic topped table. The outside door is the only one in the structure that opens outwards. On the otherside of the 'restaurant', you can see one of the two live trees inside the enclosure.

La imagen  tres muestra una vista frontal de el 'restaurante' los dos bloques apoyarán una mesa coronada en cerámica. La puerta exterior es la única en la estructura que se abre hacia el afuera.

View four

 In our last picture, over the far side you will observe the skeleton of a small house. It will have wooden walls on three sides and two floors. The upper floor accessible through a hole in the the in lower level. It is always important to build so that the monkey cannot be cornered, there must always be an escape route. The walls and the roof will be insulated. Cool in the summer and warm and dry in the rainy season.
This enclosure has one very unusual feature. The entire area will be covered by a double cage wire. The two sections of wire being half a meter apart. The reason? In previous years we have suffered from attacked by wild Capuchin Monkeys. They bounce continuously on the roof, provoking the inhabitants. Then fighting takes place through the wire. We have had casualties caused by these attacks. In most cases the carer or myself can frighten off the marauders but this added roof will give us more confidence. There will be pictures of the final enclosure in about a week when the work is complete.

Why another enclosure? Almost weekly we are asked to accept monkeys. I cannot accept them all. This new enclosure will give a second chance to a some mistreated or abandoned monkeys. I have plenty of physical space for more enclosures, I have plenty of room in my heart to save these children. Unfortunately the same is not true of my slender pension which pays for everything. En la última imagen, en el lado opuesto se observará la pequeña casa esqueleto que  tendrá paredes de madera en tres lados y dos pisos. La planta superior accesible a través de un agujero en el nivel inferior. Siempre es importante construir este nivel para que el mono no puede ser acorralado, siempre debe haber una ruta de escape. Las paredes y el techo se aíslan. Fresco en verano y cálido y seco en la temporada de lluvias.
Este recinto tiene una característica muy inusual. El área entera será cubierta por un alambre de jaula doble. Las dos secciones de alambre de ser un medio metro de distancia. ¿La razón? En años anteriores hemos sufrido ataques de monos capuchinos salvajes. Ellos se montan continuamente en el techo, lo que provocó a los habitantes. Entonces las lucha se lleva a cabo a través del alambre Hemos tenido accidentes causados ​​por estos ataques. En la mayoría de los casos, el cuidador  pueden asustar a los merodeadores, pero este techo añadido nos darán más confianza. Tengo un montón de espacio físico para más recintos, tengo mucho espacio en mi corazón para salvar a estos niños. Por desgracia, lo mismo no puede decirse de mi pequeña pensión  que paga por todo.
