Loki the baby howler in the Smithsonian National Zoo is dead.

I was very saddened today to hear that Loki, the baby black howler monkey in The Smithsonian National Zoo in Washington, has died.
I am not happy with the way the zoo have  handled this. Firstly for months after the baby was born they declared it was a boy. I pointed out their error and even sent them photographs to prove it. They went into denial. They never admitted their error. Now I hear from a correspondent on the friends of the Zoo page on Facebook that she has died. But no official announcement. Maybe politically to soon after the death of their Panda Cub. They are now in official mourning for the Panda baby. But no word about Loki. Again they have gone into denial.

I really don´t understand why they have Howlers in the zoo. They are not high risk endangered. They are in an entirely inappropriate climate. They admit themselves they have had no luck raising baby howlers for many years. I wonder sometimes if it is just for the benefit of the crowd of vets and trainees. All wandering about with their face masks and rubber gloves. I wonder how she died?

Loki el aullador bebé en el parque zoológico nacional Smithsonian ha muerto.



Me entristeció mucho hoy saber que Loki, el bebé mono aullador negro en el parque zoológico nacional Smithsonian en Washington, habia muerto.
No estoy contento con la forma en que el zoo ha manejado esto. En primer lugar porque varios meses después de que naciera el bebé, declararon que era un niño. Le señalé su error e incluso envie las fotografías para demostrarlo. Entraron en la negación. Nunca admitieron su error. Ahora que escucho de un interlocutor por los amigos de la página Zoo en Facebook que ella ha muerto. Pero no hay ningún anuncio oficial. Tal vez políticamente poco después de la muerte de su cachorro de panda. Ahora están de luto oficial por el bebé Panda. Pero ni una palabra acerca de Loki. Una vez que han entrado en la negación.

Yo realmente no entiendo por qué tienen Howlers en el zoológico. Ellos no están en peligro de alto riesgo. Están en un clima totalmente inapropiado. Ellos mismos admiten que no han tenido suerte en criar monos aulladores bebé durante muchos años. A veces me pregunto si es sólo para el beneficio de la multitud de los veterinarios y estudiantes. Todos vagando con sus mascarillas y guantes de goma. Me pregunto cómo murió?
